What are the requirements for a Catholic Marriage in Cancun?

  • Certificates of Baptism of both parties.
  • Certificates of Confirmation of both parties.
  • Permission of the selected church.
  • Four witnesses.
  • A passport-size photo of both, the bride and groom.
  • Certificate of prenuptial counseling attended by both, the bride and groom.

What are the requirements for a Civil Wedding in Cancun between two foreigners?

  • Original and copy of birth certificates, annotated and translated by an authorized translator certified in the Spanish language.
  • Prenuptial clinical analyses of both parties for VDRL, HIV, and RH (results are valid for 15 days only). They need to be taken in Mexico, or certified by a Mexican physician.
  • Copy of valid passports.
  • If one of the parties is widowed or divorced, a certified copy of the decree is required.
  • If one of the parties is a minor (18 or younger), identification copy of the parents is needed and they should be presented as witnesses on the ceremony.
  • Copy of the tourist visa/immigration slip, received upon arrival in Mexico.
  • Original and copy of valid passport for two witnesses per party. If they are foreign, they must present a copy of the tourist visa/immigration slip (received upon arrival in Mexico).
  • Name, age, nationality, home address and occupation of the four witnesses are required as well.
  • Witnesses cannot be changed on the certificate.
  • The bride and groom must arrive at least 3 working days prior to the wedding ceremony to submit all the documents.
  • The wedding day, parties and witnesses should not drink any alcohol before the ceremony.
  • Clients must present a map of the hotel or place where the ceremony is going to be held.
  • Parties should be presented 20 minutes before the ceremony.
  • They must sign a document where they agree with all the requirements.

What are the requirements for a Civil Wedding in Cancun between a mexican and a foreigner?

  • State certificate stating that bride or groom is not married (only for the Mexican to be married).
  • Birth certificates of the bride and groom (for the foreign bride or groom, apostled and translated into Spanish by an authorized translator; if the issuing country does not apostle certificates, it must be certified by the Consul of the Mexican Embassy in the country of origin). 
  • In case the foreigner does not have a birth certificate, he or she must show a valid passport and fill in an affidavit (given in the Civil Registry).
  • CURP (Mexican bride or groom).
  • Prenuptial analysis (VDRL, HIV and RH) certified by a doctor (both documents signed, stamped and with the doctor’s professional registration number). Results are valid for 15 days only.
  • I.D.s of bride and groom and four witnesses (IFE or valid passport).
  • If either the bride or groom is widowed or divorced, they must show the corresponding certificate.

What are the requirements for a Civil Wedding in Cancun between two mexican citizens?

  • State certificate stating that the bride or groom is not married. 
  • Original birth certificates of bride and groom.
  • CURP.
  • Official ID for the bride and groom, as well as the four witnesses (IFE or valid passport).
  • If either party is a minor, a school certificate can serve as ID.
  • Prenuptial analysis (VDRL, HIV and RH) certified by a doctor (both documents signed, stamped and with the doctor’s professional registration number). Results are valid for 15 days only.
  • Prenuptial medical certificate for the bride and groom; This must specify that neither party suffers from chronic and/or incurable illness, that may also be contagious or genetic. 
  • If either party is a minor, both sets of parents must sign as witnesses or if that is not possible, then a special permit from the secretary of the municipality is required. 
  • If either the bride or groom is widowed or divorced, they must show the corresponding certificate.
