Stories of Love: Laura’s pregnancy news for Christmas!

There is no excuse for living such a fast-paced life, even when you live in a beautiful place that is just 20 minutes away from the stunning beaches of Cancun!

I know that a lot of my friends who live in cities probably believe that I lie on my back and scratch my tummy while I drink a Piña Colada under the shade of a coconut tree, but contrary to popular belief that is not the case. Although I would like to do that more often, my many responsibilities demand that I dedicate my time to work, which I absolutely love doing anyways!

Having said this, I was inspired to write this post because quality time with friends and family is so fragile these days that we need to stop in our tracks and just realize that moments fly by in an instant.

Now that Christmas is around the corner, a lot of human beings divert their attention from what lies before their eyes to the worries of gift-giving. Or if you are like myself, gift-making! …So much so, that when my good friend and one of Cancun’s most beloved travel bloggers, Laura Winfree, shared with me her best kept secret by far, I was so engrossed with the new design for the personalized ball ornaments that she was ordering as Christmas gifts for her family, that I completely missed her Facebook message about her pregnancy.

At the time, I hadn’t realized that a moment had passed and that I missed my chance to shower my friend with love and congratulations. It wasn’t until two weeks later when we were arranging to meet for her order’s pickup that I was scrolling back on our previous conversation that I caught a glimpse of her pregnancy news!

Needless to say, I felt terrible because so much time had passed and I was afraid that Laura was convinced that I hadn’t cared at all. Especially after re-reading her message for the tenth time and noticing that she had also asked me to keep it a secret.

By now, those of you who are lucky to know Laura up-close and personal or follow her social media probably already know the news, so I can safely say that at least I managed to keep her secret (for the sake of my story, I’ll be ignoring the little voice in my head now).

After I realized what had happened, I wasted no time in congratulating Laura along with my sincerest apology. Then, she explained to me that the reason why she had requested the ball ornaments to say “abuelo, abuela, tío y tía” (grandpa, grandma, uncle and aunt in spanish), was just so that she could reveal the surprise to her loved ones by letting them know that their official family titles were about to change.

This is definitely one of the sweetest ways any couple can come up with to share with their loved ones the joy of becoming expecting parents. What I take from this experience is that it is so important to stop one’s train of thoughts, even when interacting with others over social media, because we might just miss what literally lies in front of us.

I’m a strong believer of spending quality time with friends and family, as well as never taking things for granted, which is why I am extremely touched by the fact that what I do with great passion can also be a tiny part of this once-in-a-lifetime occasion for my friend Laura, her husband and their families.

We don’t get many chances in life to make up for lost time or missed moments (quite often none at all), so you can imagine my joy when I found out I was still able to salvage the moment and have the privilege of congratulating the new mommy-to-be before her own family! J

Has something like this ever happened to you guys? Please comment in the section below, I would really like to hear your thoughts!

My coder is trying to persuade me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses. But he's tryiong none the less. I've been using WordPress on various websites for about a year and am concerned about switching to another platform. I have heard excellent things about blogengine.net. Is there a way I can import all my wordpress posts into it? Any kind of help would be really appreciated!
